"HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE Experience. I am now consulting with the new surgeon after having three bunion surgeries with Dr Ficke. My first one was over 10 years ago, I had to have two surgeries on the same foot because he did not correct the surgery after the first time. So here I am 11 years later and I have to have surgeries on both feet again. WORST experience of my life. Thus is a horrible surgery to go thru. And now I'm facing to do both feet again. AND ...U had to pay THOUSANDS out if pocket for these THREE surgeries. I had even asked if on the 2nd surgery on my right foot, because of HIS ERROR, I could get a cut in what I would owe , they said no I'm in Healthcare and this is NOT how patients should be treated. My feet are more painful than they were before my surgeries. PLEASE find yourself another surgeon!!! RUN"
"Very disappointed with Dr Ficke. I traveled cross country for an appointment due to the excellent reviews he has received. The appointment went very well. At the conclusion of the appointment, he said he would give me a recommendation on next steps once he received my MRI from my local imaging group. I sent the MRI immediately after my appointment and contacted his assistant to confirm its receipt. She indicated that it was available to the Dr and that he would review it and call me. My appointment occurred on April 3rd, 2023 and and after MANY phone calls to his assistant I have not heard back from Dr Ficke. So in almost 7 months he has not bothered to call me back even though I'm in pain and his assistant has assured me that he is aware of my situation. Out of desperation, I am writing this review and will file a formal complaint with the hospital. I feel it is important for Dr Ficke's colleagues to know that he has been unresponsive and has let me down."
"I saw Dr. Ficke for a second opinion after my regular podiatrist recommended surgery for a torn tendon and dislocation of my 2nd metatarsal, and fixing the 3rd metatarsal before it also snapped (2nd/3rd metatarsal shortening (Weil) osteotomies with plantar plate repair). However, my regular podiatrist was hesitant to recommend repair of the large bunion I had on the same foot since it had not been causing any pain. When I saw Dr. Ficke, he agreed with the 2nd/3rd metatarsal repair, but was fairly adamant that I should also have the bunion repaired - "It would be risky not to treat the severe hallux valgus in this context as it is likely partially involved in the increased forces through the 2nd metatarsal". In other words, if I did not have the bunion repaired, (Osteotomy, Metatarsal Bone ), there was a chance that I would experience another issue with the 2nd metatarsal at some future date. I felt very comfortable with Dr. Ficke's explanation of the reason for the bunion repair and the procedures to be used for all the repairs. As a result, I decided to have him do the surgery, rather than my regular podiatrist. On the day of the surgery, Dr. Ficke spoke with me in Pre-Op and answered some additional questions I had. He also put his hand on my shoulder as I said a brief prayer for him and all those involved in my surgery. I had my post-surgery follow-up visit 3 weeks after surgery to have the splint and cast removed and stitches removed. My wife was able to attend. Dr. Ficke examined my foot, said that it was looking good, and explained what he had done, next steps, etc. He took his time and answered all of our questions in detail. During all my encounters with Dr. Ficke, I never felt rushed and always had the feeling that he was looking out for the best possible long-term outcome for me. My review of his background and in-person visits left me feeling certain that I had selected an extremely well-qualified surgeon to take care of my foot issue."
"Dr. Ficke is a wonderful doctor that always has plausible options for my chronic ankle pain. I feel very lucky to be his patient because his expertise is beyond any of my former orthopaedics doctors. His bedside manner is wonderful and his staff is very professional and responsive. I highly recommend him."
"Dr. Ficke is AMAZING. God bless you Dr. Ficke! The ankle replacement he performed has given me a new lease on life. To be able to make dinner for my family and take my dog for a walk has been such a gift!"
"Dr. Ficke provided excellent care of me, after a bad fall during a run. He explained the surgical procedures in detail, to me and my husband, and patiently answered and addressed my concerns. I strongly recommend him for any orthopaedic surgery."
"Top Notch! Dr. Ficke has the knowledge, skills & abilities for any orthopaedic ailment you may have. I went to him to get a 2nd opinion about a nondisplaced Weber B fracture and he gave me text book explanation, proposed treatment plans, pros & cons for each & gave me his recommendation & why. 1st Orthopaedic Surgeon I saw wanted to do an ORIF (slice my ankle open and put a plate & screws in there) after seeing me for 60 seconds. I have been in a cast for 2 weeks now and my broken ankle is healing VERY well without doing surgery."
"Very impressive. Made me feel very comfortable and answered all my questions. Knows his stuff and great bedside manners. His nurse is really nice, too"
