Testimonials
"I decided to look for a physio after securing a place in the New York Marathon. I had never completed a marathon before and had struggled with constant running injuries in the past. Dean came very highly recommended by several people in my building, and after training with him for six months, I couldn't speak more highly of him or recommend him enough. From my initial assessment, I knew that with his help and guidance I would be able to make it through the marathon - but I didn't expect just how big an impact he would have. As a 34-year-old female with a hectic work schedule who travels often and doesn't exercise anywhere near as much as I should and has struggled with what I thought were shin splints for as long as I can remember I knew it wasn't going to be an easy task but Dean was confident he could work with me to achieve my goals. He essentially retaught me how to run through a series of carefully planned exercises. As a result, I completed my entire marathon training programme injury-free and successfully finished the marathon, achieving every goal I set: to get to the end, to enjoy it, not be in pain the whole way around, and to finish within five hours. Before I met Dean, it was hard to believe any of that was possible. It's difficult to put into words just how brilliant he is and what he did for me. From the very first assessment, he identified my issues and put together a clear, structured plan. Each week, I could see real progress. Once we addressed the main problem, we shifted our focus to my race goals and how best to achieve them - keeping me on track with my training plan. When I needed physio after long runs, he worked through any niggles; he taught me weight training (something I had always avoided in the gym); he was always available to answer questions and regularly checked in on me. He even helped with every aspect of race day planning - from fuelling strategies to the best spots for spectators. Working with Dean made what felt like an incredibly daunting challenge much more manageable. I honestly don't think I could have done it without him."
"With Dean's Help, I Ran My First Marathon! Dean was immensely helpful in empowering me to run my first marathon. I have completed numerous half marathons before, but due to constant quad and knee pain, I had never been able to push beyond that distance. That's where Dean came in! Over the course of 8 months, I worked with Dean to prepare my body for the demands of a marathon and get my body past the point where it always broke down. Dean put together a highly detail oriented and personalized plan to go from extreme basics to advanced strength and mobility. We started with the very early fundamentals including toe yoga and foot strength, before working up to more explosive strength training work like squats and nordic curls. All the while, Dean also used numerous therapy techniques in order to help me adapt to the increased training load including massage, scraping, stretching, and more. The combo of the strength, flexibility, and therapy work enabled me to push my limits further than they had been pushed before, and for me to be able to complete a marathon pain free. Dean was also extremely emotionally invested in my journey and my success. He prepared me detailed training plans to use in-between visits, but would also periodically check in, especially after my long training runs to just see how I was doing. I cannot recommend Dean highly enough to anyone who has battled injuries in their training before, and who is looking for someone who can both mentally and physically enable them to be at their best. He is both incredibly smart and caring about those who he works with."
"I first met Dr. Dean Hottum years ago while healing a shoulder injury and immediately recognized his gift. When I began training for my first marathon at 50, I knew he was the one to help guide me through it. I saw him weekly through 20+ weeks of training, and each session brought me back into balance -- body and mind. Dean is wise beyond his years, an athlete and healer who knows exactly when to push and when to pause. He's so good I'd travel from West Chelsea to Greenpoint every week. Deeply grateful for his care and presence on the journey. Anyone lucky enough to work with him is in great hands."
