Chicago Institute for Neuropathic Pain: Michael Rock, MD

"I've been a patient of Dr. Rock for about a year for chronic low back pain management and have undergone multiple procedures, including joint injections, RFA, and surgery. Every interaction I had with one of the RNs was distressing. As part of my care, I'm required to meet monthly with this RN for follow-up after procedures in order to receive refills of pain medication prescribed by Dr. Rock for my chronic low back pain. During each visit, including virtual follow-ups, her tone was consistently argumentative and scolding rather than supportive. She repeatedly scolded me for taking pain medication that had been prescribed by the doctor for my chronic condition, which was confusing and inappropriate for a patient following their care plan. When I asked questions, I felt corrected instead of guided. During my most recent visit, I ended the appointment early due to her behavior, and my prescribed pain medication was not refilled afterward, which felt retaliatory. This was especially concerning because the medication I was prescribed is not intended to be stopped abruptly, and I was left unsure how to safely proceed with my care. Patients managing chronic pain should feel supported and able to ask questions without fear that doing so will affect their access to care. Unfortunately, that was not my experience."

"I love going to Dr. Rock you can be honest and open with him and he will always be honest and open with you. I feel like he is always looking out for what is best for his patients and takes the time to hear you out. Most Doctors just want to get you in and out, not Dr. Rock he takes his time with his patients. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who is looking for a Neuropathic Pain Specialist, I have many different back issues and he was the only doctor that has been able to address each issue. Besides being so completely understanding and compassionate, his skills with epidural injections, trigger point injections are impeccable! Chronic pain is so difficult to deal with, having a Doctor keep up your morale, and try to find cause of pain, not just write prescriptions is wonderful. Dr Rock,and his just wonderful staff have been a Godsend in my life. Kindest staff ever, very knowledgeable with insurance, trying to ALWAYS help. So kind.
