Testimonials
"Dr. Dombrowski is the BEST! He replaced my left hip 10 years ago in 2016. Then replaced my right hip in 2021 then my right knee in 2024. At my very first physical therapy appointment in January 2016 I told the head of the clinic my surgeon was Dr. Dombrowski. He said "Oh good! We never have problems with Dombrowski's patients." In Feb 2025 Dr. Dombrowski replaced my wife's right hip. When she reported to her first PT session the physical therapist described Dr. Dombrowski as a "miracle worker". Physical therapists are front line quality assurance inspectors. They are trained professionals. They see how you walk in the door for your first PT session, how you progress and how walk out after your last. They measure range of motion when you start PT and when you finish. They see the fresh incision and they see how it heals. They observe pain levels and pain progression. They know who the great docs are and the not so great. Dr Dombrowski is one of the greats! I'm a senior and I regularly walk 3 miles at a sub-17 min/mile pace which is about as fast as my old legs will go. I may eventually need a left knee, but Dr. Dombrowski estimates mine will last another four years. He is very conservative and does not press to get his numbers up. I have recommended him to every friend or acquaintance who ever even mentioned an achy joint. Edwin Jankura Woodbridge VA"
"Dr. Dombrowski, during my first visit, performed a thorough questioning of my physical activity history and explained 40 plus years of long distance running likely was the cause of the pain being experienced in my right knee. X-rays and additional examination confirmed his diagnosis. He gently explained that I would require total right knee replacement surgery. During this visit, Dr. Dombrowski and his staff were exceptionally professional and sympathetic as my days of running were likely over. Surgery was scheduled on August 18, 2025, at the Fairfax Surgical Center. Presurgery, Dr. Dombrowski carefully explained the upcoming procedure. The staff at Fairfax Surgical Center were equally professional and informative. Upon completion of the surgery, Dr. Dombrowski again visited me in recovery and explained the surgery went very well and outlined important post surgical care. During the follow up visit on August 20, Dr. Dombrowski examined the surgical site and reiterated the importance of compliance with the prescription regimen, proper care of the wound site and expected limitations of physical activity. On August 21, I began physical therapy with my assigned PT Ashley Smith. During numerous visits with PT Smith, she and her staff were at all times professional, knowledgeable and reassuring. The resulting gain in strength and flexibility was very reassuring. My most recent visit with Dr. Dombrowski on December 4, 2025, was equally reassuring as my progress and recovery were expressed to be totally on target. My experience throughout the examinations, surgery, recovery and PT were exceptional and professional in every aspect. Should you experience prolonged discomfort or pain in your knee, I would highly recommend you (stop running) immediately schedule an appointment with Dr. Dombrowski and his staff. Walt Baranyk"
"Dr. Dombrowski fixed my knee replacement which was performed by a different surgeon. The doctor that performed the original surgery was unable to determine why my knee continued with pain and swelling a full year after the replacement. Dr. Dombrowski took a slow methodical approach, ruling out many possibilities over a few months. He finally determined that replacement of a plastic spacer was required. 3 months after the 2nd procedure my knee feels worlds better. Thank you Dave!!!"
"I am posting for by brother. In 2025, Dr. Dombrowski performed knee replacement surgery on both of his knees (not a the same time). The results have been remarkable considering his health issues at the time and have exceeded what we could have imagined. We highly recommend Dr. Dombrowski and his staff to those considering surgery."
"Dr. Dombrowski is a fantastic surgeon. He performed knee replacement on my husband 10 years ago, and again on his other knee in March 2025. He is always thorough in explaining procedures to us, sharing x-rays, and expressing the expectations for the outcome. He hit another home run for husband. And as the spouse, he always explains everything to me as well. My husband's knee replacement was a total success. He is walking without pain and feels great. So do I! We are so lucky to have such an amazing surgeon as Dr. Dombrowski. AND he is a great guy. Very kind, professional, and thoughtful. Just can't say enough good things about Dr. Dombrowski."
"27 years ago this October I was involved in a motorcycle accident that shattered my right leg, open femur and tib/fib fractures. I was young, with 3 small children and a pregnant wife, and I unwisely commuted on my bike to save gas and use HOV to have more time at home with my family. It was an enormously stressful event. I had the incredible fortune of being airlifted to Fairfax on a day Dr. Dombrowski was attending. The surgery was multiple hours, and he miraculously saved my leg. But what impacted me went well beyond his skill as a young surgeon that first day. I had a lot of swelling and they couldn't close my lower leg wound for days, with a 50/50 chance of losing the leg. He was at my bedside every single morning of my 3 week hospital stay to check on me. He personally changed my bandages each day. His office care for my follow-up visits was so attentive and caring. He always took the time to explain, listen, and answer fully, and he was honest about all complications possible. He was encouraging and kind. He removed my rods 18mo later, and again, the experience was so attentive, informative, and skillfully done. I healed very well, and was able to mostly have the same life I had before. 10 years later I had a freak accident that broke my calcaneus and talus on the same leg, and spent 6 more months of no weight bearing. The experience was the polar opposite. I never met my surgeon until my very last post-op appointment, when he came in the room to talk with the resident who had been in the surgery and handled all of my post-op. He ignored me, spoke with the resident, and before he left the room, said two words to me, no more or less. "Cycle, swim." The recovery was terrible. If you know anything about a fractured calcaneus, it's unconscionable that the unnamed surgeon gave me no PT prescription or guidance at all, and I've spent 17 years in pain, developing arthritis everywhere, and trying everything possible to recover. I'm only recently getting proper realignment and mobility in a foot that was left with "near zero" range of motion, effectively a paralyzed lump. It has taken me, without hyperbole, thousands of hours of work at home and fighting through incredible levels of pain, to get my foot moving right. That was not how Dr. Dombrowski left me. There's not a doubt in my mind that had he performed my heel surgery my outcome would have been dramatically better. I can't recommend Dr. Dombrowski enough. I reflect often on the contrast of my experiences between surgeons. Dr. Dombrowski cares about people as much as being an excellent surgeon. I would never choose any other surgeon in any capacity he specializes in. If he can do it, he's the only person I would see. It matters, who operates on you. It matters a lot. Thanks, Rob, you changed my life. I will be well again, and only because you saved my leg. I'm forever grateful to you, from the bottom of my heart. -Jaron"
"My friend referred me to Dr. Dombrowski because he had successfully treated her knee. Since that time, he has repaired my torn meniscus and subsequently did a total knee replacement for me and one for my husband. I also must mention his exceptional physical therapists that worked with us to get the best possible function. I completely trust his judgment and feel that he is compassionate and conservative with his approach."
"Dr Dombrowski recently, 2/2025, did an excellent surgery on my left shoulder. He repaired a retracted rotator cuff, separated bicep, bursitis, bone spur and cleaned up some arthritis. I was told by another orthopedic surgeon that I needed a shoulder replacement. Dr D was kind, informative, and thorough throughout the surgical process. After completing all of the required physical therapy I am now back in Pilates, biking, and exercising with weights. He also performed surgery on my right rotator cuff after 2013 ski accident and 12 years later it is still fully functioning without pain. I highly recommend Dr. D!!!"
