Integrated Pain Management

"If you're one of Dr. Larsen's former patients, I don't recommend coming here. For context: Dr. Larsen has passed, and there is a mass exodus of his former patients searching for new care. The local medical community who worked alongside him is aware of this, and some patients have been referred to this practice as a possible option. Dr. Xia's not a neurologist (he's pain management), but he can do things like injections and prescribe pain medication. My appointment was scheduled weeks in advance. Dr. Larsen's secretary sent over my records ahead of time, and my family helped me carefully complete all the required forms, including a detailed medication list. We took time off work and made a long trip to be here only to be told, after being put in an exam room, that Dr. Xia would not be seeing us. Why? Because my medication list was "too complex." They explained that Dr. Xia is a pain management doctor and for me, only offers a limited range of treatments: Botox and possibly one other type of injection. And even then, he doesn't administer the injections himself. So I wouldn't be seeing the doctor much at all. And at no point did they suggest trying any new medication either, even though I still need help. So why schedule the appointment in the first place? Why not screen patients ahead of time? This kind of situation, wasting patients' time, energy, and money, is exactly what happens far too often to people living with chronic pain. We get treated like logistical challenges instead of human beings. Worse, I was told they've been seeing many of Dr. Larsen's former patients and are now directing them elsewhere. Are they only making that decision after those patients have already made an appointment and shown up? If you're someone with a simple medication list who just needs maintenance care, maybe this clinic can meet your needs. But if your case is even slightly complex, I'd strongly suggest looking elsewhere before investing your time and hope here."
