Testimonials
"Dr. Metzl is amazing! I saw him while recovering from a stress fracture, and he struck the perfect balance between being realistic about my recovery and keeping me optimistic about my return to running. He was always kind, encouraging, and patient with all my questions. I also really appreciated that he gave me may tips to heal well and help prevent injuries in the future. I always left my appointments feeling supported and more confident in my recovery."
"As a long distance triathlete I've been to dozens of DRs in the NJ/NY area. Before I gave up after years, I met Dr Metzel and he quickly figured out my issue and got me back on the road in no time. Shame I didn't meet him earlier as my knee issues went on for years across dozens of DRs! I have sent numerous friends and family there, all have been blown away on care of service. He's great!"
"Having been a patient of Dr. Metzl for several years before ultimately deciding to seek care elsewhere, I can say without hesitation that my experience with him was consistently disappointing and, in the end, harmful.I would strongly advise against putting your trust in his care. My final appointment with Dr. Metzl followed a pelvic injury for which I had received an MRI. Like many runners in New York, I went to see him expecting a thoughtful and accurate evaluation. Instead, I spent two hours in the waiting room, followed by another 45 minutes alone in the exam room, before Dr. Metzl arrived without even a greeting. He gave a cursory glance at my scan, vaguely declared, "It muscular," and sent me off to physical therapy--likely at Finishline, a PT clinic that unfortunately points their clients towards his care. Not feeling confident with that assessment, I flew back to Boulder, Colorado--where I train--and sought a second opinion at the Colorado University Sports Medicine Center. There, I was properly diagnosed with a stress fracture. The injury was plainly visible on the scan, even to my untrained eye. I subsequently had to offload for a few months while the bone healed. Due to the pubic rings attachment to the left abductor this injury would never have healed under Metzl's direction and would have just been burning cash at a NY PT. Following Dr. Metzl's diagnosis would have risked sidelining myself for a year or more. It's especially disheartening because so many without better judgment follow Dr. Metzl's wholeheartedly without considering getting a second opinion . But this experience has completely shaken my faith in sports medicine practices in New York and from that point forward only worked with docs in Boulder. I pity the number of athletes--professional and amateur alike--who may have been misdiagnosed or under-treated by him. Please consider seeking care elsewhere. I share this with sincere concern for the safety and well-being of fellow athletes."
