Testimonials
"Let me start by thanking some of the therapists who truly made a difference in my recovery -- Physical Therapist Corrie at the Arlington Heights location for helping me get out of the wheelchair, Occupational Therapist Kurt at the Arlington Heights location for treating me with such kindness, and Physical Therapist Ann (or Annie) at the Chicago location for believing in me when I was at my lowest, weakest, and most distressed. Unfortunately, while the Arlington Heights location is well-known and attracts many people seeking help, the therapists there are often extremely busy. The sessions tend to follow a set routine and script rather than being customized to each individual's needs. I also felt that some of the senior occupational therapy providers were not very responsive -- whenever I tried to speak with them, I was told to wait or that someone would get back to me, which rarely happened. Some equipment, such as a stationary bike with an electronic video screen and air-filled elbow slings, was out of order for an extended time. Most sessions are conducted in group settings with limited one-on-one attention and are not focused on strengthening the specific body parts or muscles that need targeted therapy. Additionally, I attended many speech therapy sessions, which were also not focused and felt like a waste of time and resources. Ultimately, I decided to switch therapy providers."
"Shirley Ryan is an amazing place for people who need rehabilitation for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech. Both the Arlington Heights location and the Streeterville location are great places to be. Staff is very invested in your care with patience and encouragement. If you ever need therapy, this is the place to be."
"I love going to this facility. Every staff member I've worked with is prepared to help with my specific needs, work well as a team, and is kind and thoughtful."
"I signed my wife up for physical therapy at the Arlington Heights facility. After two months of therapy, she is not walking any better than when she started. To make matters worse, on her last day one of the therapists asked if she had a stroke because of the way she was walking. Two months of visits and someone finally wakes up! We are now checking that out. She is now going to NWCH for physical therapy. On the first day during the evaluation, it was noticed that her left leg was shorter than the right - possibly from the fractured hip. This was not even mentioned at Shirley Ryan. Very disappointed in them."
"Many of the staff in there are not well educated on orthosis that's effective and efficient which can slow down physical progress. If something DOES work it's best for the patient to point that out so everybody can learn and improve this aspect of the practice. Furthermore, the orthotic clinic is only in one time a week which can slow down the process of communication and patch work for braces. Knowing this, definitely prepare everything in advance . In addition, there are group days which I personally felt a little lost in translation with because the lack of one on one time with the therapist. Although I left early due to the above reasons I would like to point out the immense effort and support from my primary physical therapist; it just wasn't working for my case. Lastly, it's imperative the patient asks for resources and to be led in the right direction with anything at all."
"Wonderful experience. Staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and really cared. I can't speak highly of the care they showed towards me and other patients there during my stay. I know I may have been a difficult patient there, but they were wonderful all around. There are names I'm forgetting, so I'm sorry for that. Wonderful place, sorry for the late review, it's been a year or 2."
"Best outpatient rehab centers, period. Everyone goes out of their way to make sure their patients receive exactly what they need to get better."
"Excellent, excellent. Can not say enough good things about Shirley Ryan in Arlington Heights and on Erie street, Chicago. Our whole entire experience"
