Testimonials
"After months of research and reading recommendations across different medical forums, one name kept appearing whenever people talked about the best ankle cartilage specialist in New York: Dr. Kennedy. That consistency made me curious -- and now, one year after my surgery, I can say every word was true. 1. Exceptional first appointment From the moment I met Dr. Kennedy, I felt seen and genuinely cared for. He took his time -- more than any other doctor I had visited -- to understand my full history, my fears, my movement patterns, and my concerns. His ability to explain complex issues with clarity and confidence immediately grounded me. A special thank-you to Tracey, whose warmth, efficiency, and kindness made the entire process smooth from day one. And to Tori and the rest of the team -- thank you for treating me with patience and professionalism at every step. 2. Surgery day: skill, care, and calm During surgery, Dr. Kennedy checked in on me repeatedly and explained what was happening with so much patience. His hands are incredibly steady, and his confidence is the kind that makes you feel safe even in the most vulnerable moment. 3. Post-op and recovery I received clear, personalized guidance and a PT plan designed specifically for my situation. Follow-up visits were always consistent -- same kindness, same professionalism, same level of care. 4. Results: nothing short of a miracle Before surgery: * I could barely walk long distances * Grocery shopping required planning * IKEA was impossible to finish * I woke up with morning stiffness every day * I worried about whether my ankle would survive even simple plans * I was told by multiple doctors I would never run or jump again * The only long-term option they offered was "fusion someday" My life felt like it was shrinking. After surgery -- everything changed. Today, I walk freely with full range of motion, no stiffness, no pain, and I've returned to all the activities I love: cycling, Pilates, dancing, and just living without fear. People around me cannot even tell I ever had an injury, let alone surgery. It truly feels like getting my life back. 5. Final thoughts Dr. Kennedy is the rare combination of world-class technical skill, deep compassion, humility, and genuine dedication to helping people return to the lives they love. I'm especially grateful that Dr. Kennedy used the nanoscope technique -- a minimally invasive, high-precision approach that allowed me to walk the same day and recover far beyond what I was told was possible. The nanoscope technology made a remarkable difference -- less trauma, faster mobility, and a level of clarity and precision that translated directly into my outcome. If you're looking for the best surgeon for ankle/talus cartilage injuries or ankle arthritis -- someone you can trust with complete confidence -- Dr. Kennedy and his team are the ones. ---Zoe Z"
"This is my 2-year patient journey and testimony. Chapter 1. THE BEGINNING: When I first met Dr. Kennedy in April 2022, I was a junior in college, and I was pretty devastated by a long-term ankle injury that just wouldn't heal. As a college student and figure skater, my mobility was crucial for my identity and the activities I loved doing. In March 2021, a freak snowboarding accident hurled me down a ravine, and I twisted my ankle sharply. This inversion sheared off some cartilage and underlying bone, causing an osteochondral lesion (OCL), though I didn't know it at the time. Since that day, I had persistent pain and instability with each step and was desperate to get better. Meeting Dr. Kennedy was life-changing. Chapter 2. COMPASSIONATE CARE & PERSONALIZED APPROACH: During my first patient visit, Dr. Kennedy took the time to get to know me as a person, establishing trust. As his research fellow presented my MRI on the screen, Dr. Kennedy explained to me what an OCL was, even drawing out a picture of my pathology on the exam room table paper. He engaged me in the process, making me feel like an active participant in my treatment and recovery. Understanding my injury better made me feel empowered and more in control of my recovery journey, which felt fraught with uncertainties. I appreciated Dr. Kennedy's personalized approach and thoughtfulness. In addition, Dr. Kennedy asked me about my interests and activities. As I told him a bit about my college life and love for science and ice skating, his questions and gestures established rapport. I saw that he viewed me holistically as an individual with hopes and concerns, and as more than just my set of symptoms. Though I was nervous about surgery, Dr. Kennedy's rapt attention and care made me trust in him. I knew that he would not only successfully treat my tricky cartilage injury, but he had my back. Chapter 3. INNOVATIVE RESEARCH THAT HELPS PATIENTS: In addition to his compassion, I've been inspired by Dr. Kennedy's desire to continuously innovate. He and his research team investigates the latest treatments in cartilage repair and musculoskeletal conditions, bringing findings back to the clinic and O.R. to help patients like me. As a patient, I experienced the importance of meeting a doctor who pushes the field forward. Cartilage is tricky to treat due to its avascularity, yet Dr. Kennedy knows so much about it because he has had a long-standing academic interest in cartilage injuries and studied it. Dr. Kennedy accurately diagnosed and treated my cystic osteochondral lesion, a challenging cartilage defect. Having performed the OATS (cartilage restoration) surgery more than anyone in the country, his expertise was crucial when I might have been on the verge of disability. As his patient, I benefited from his extensive knowledge and innovative approach, even experiencing the quick healing time of the nano-arthroscopy (a minimally invasive surgery) which Dr. Kennedy pioneered. His clinical decisions are evidence-based and informed by ongoing research, ensuring the best care. I am thankful for Dr. Kennedy's cutting-edge treatments that restored my mobility and function. Chapter 4. THE FUTURE & THANKS: Dr. Kennedy and his team have taken exceptional care of me over the past two years. Dr. Kennedy is not only an amazing surgeon-scientist but also a genuinely nice person with a sense of humor and strong leadership qualities. His encouragement during my many post-op appointments gave me inner strength, fueling me throughout my recovery. In addition, whenever I had a concern, his office was just a phone call away, always going the extra mile to help me. During my post-op recovery, his team worked closely with my physical therapists, guiding my rehab exercises. This coordinated effort has been instrumental in my healing process. It is my privilege to be your patient, and thank you so much, Dr. Kennedy, for you and your team's care. "I had a nanoscope treatment for removing excess scar tissue 2 years after a major ankle surgery. I opted not to take painkillers as the pain was not too bad. It was worst in the first 4 hours and gradually decreased to normal over about 7 days. Walking was somewhat difficult but very possible immediately after the procedure. Dr. Kennedy is a very knowledgeable doctor who is great at explaining what you can expect from a treatment and followup care."
