"I was there in late February. I am an RN who did work at nursing homes in the 90's. As a Nurse I never treated people the way they did. I was admitted on Saturday around 6 pm for rehab. Had surgery on a broken ankle that past Thur. I was to stay completely off my left leg post-op. 1st they had to change out the bed bc it was broken. Waited with ambulance crew while they put in a different bed in the room. Once in the room, it was so hot my roommate had to keep a window open so we could "take it" so hot... When I asked to see the Nurse, said she would be back. When she did come in she did no admission exam. Gave me some pills, didn't show what they were. When asked my morphine which I take twice a day.. They would take of that tomorrow. Night Nurse did do my PPD for TB. Got me some Tylenol. I was only 2 days post-op and that was all I could get. In the morning same Nurse from Sat was back. Told me I would have to wait until Monday after seeing NP, they would prescribe my morphine. I was already in withdrawal at 9 am. Sweating vomiting and diarrhoea ! I called friends to get me out. When my friend showed up, Nurse came in friendly and started talking to my friend. (She said she was why is talking to me. I don't anything.) I told the Nurse I was going home. She left came back with the paperwork. Speaking toward my friend and not me... Said something that I surgery for a wound they couldn't see bc of the bandage. I clarified that I had a broken ankle surgery not a wound infection. She left saying that they would not help me leave. Luckily my roommate let us borrow her wheelchair to leave. If that was not available I was ready to crawl out of there !!! I got home and Monday sent reports to State of Maryland and to Medicare... BTW, the nursing assistants were great ! Otherwise you are on own !!!"
"My brother recently die from the care in the care of for Washington rehabilitation center located in Fort Washington, Maryland. I won't tell anyone do not, do you got any circumstances send a LLove one to this facility for anything unless you do not like them nor care for them, and wish them harm or death. They allowed my brother to suffer his last week of life. When my sister went to visit him on the day that he passed, they had taken away his nurses call button, taking away his ability to suction himself. Turn the machine off, he was in feces they had that there's no wash them. The nurses were rude told family members that if they wanted to talk they had to go in the hallway and they were not to wake him up because he was difficult to deal with and that they could not understand anything he was saying and even pointed to the hallway. On the day my brother died, I asked for the name of the nurse who told my brothers to go to the hallway to talk and of course they said she was out due to illness. (She was sick). The last time I saw my brother was that Tuesday before his death on that Friday, he was in a lot of pain and again there was no nurse call button in his bed. They had taken it and put it on something hanging on the wall up from his bed which he's could not reach. No one deserves to be treated the way my brother was treated. He was a good wonderful man. It breaks our hearts to know that you suffer the way he did due to their lack of care and compassion. My family and I went to see him on a Saturday, we walked into his room and his trach was oozing with secretion coming out of it, going down his neck and under his chin and again there was no nurse called button in his bed that he could use to call for help and his suction machine hose was in the floor so he couldn't even reach them , I went out to get the nurses and told them to get in there and clean him up now and this was absolutely horrific and unacceptable and that I would be contacting MD Quality Health Care to report them. They told us we had to wait in hallway but my two sons stayed in the room with him to watch what they did with him. I told them that they had better get him taken care of now and that I will be contacting Maryland Department of Health about the lack of care for my brother and them violating his rights as a patient and his health. This has to change. If anybody knows of any lawyers, any other resources, I can take please, please I beg you to contact me. Their treatment towards my brother was horrible and unacceptable. The place is filthy, dirty the furniture is old and broken and the one in my brothers room 102 you could not move it much because it was wobbly. The furniture in the room beside him the bottom was missing. It's like free furniture off the street that is left for free. I could not imagine that there was any place worse than Villa Rosa, but I found it and it is called the Fort Washington rehabilitation center. I am still searching for a lawyer to defend my brothers rights that were violated to bring justice not only drive family, but for him. I had just had a meeting with the doctor and other nurses for rehabilitation, dietary, and speech I believe that Tuesday before his death, and they told me a completely different story on the day he died then that day that we spoke. horrible horrible, horrible. I am telling anyone who has a family member looking for a rehabilitation facility for their family member, please, please DONOT SEND THEM HERE. Again, if anyone has the name of a good lawyer, please, please please forward me that information. It is absolutely insane that no one is holding anyone accountable for this. I will check back from time to time to see if there is any information concerning a lawyer posted thank you all and I wish you all a blessed day. And watch over your loved ones."
"This place is horrible! I wish I had researched them before I chose them for my mother's rehabilitation. Everyday it's something with them. They are so unorganized! The nurse's are rude and unprofessional. Please avoid the trouble and headache!!! Pleas do not bring your love one here!!!!"
"My mother's death was due to inadequate monitoring by some staff members. Mom had dementia and was ultimately at risk for falling She had several falls that resulted in head and face injuries; bruises; bleeding in brain caused by trauma from falls, missing clothing and other personal items. Why no surveillance in hallways? It's allowed in hospitals, schools, day care centers, etc. Over the 4 year period that she was a resident there, it was obvious that staff turnaround was great, some of her GNAs and nurses were there with their hearts in it. A good amount could care less, lazy, nonchalant. Be aware if wound care specialist tells you that a bedsore is just an irritation!! It took the hospice nurse to point out the 'irritation" was a bed sore on the skin over Mom's tailbone. It worsened!! Please make visits as regular as you can because only a few are advocating for your loved one. If your loved one cannot feed themselves.,you should be there at meal times to make certain that they eat. And if they are wanderers, PLEASE DON'T BRING THEM TO THIS FACILITY.!!!"
"To: Rosalind Stokes and The Fort Washington Health Center My family and I can not thank you enough for the care, support, and understanding your facility provided for my mom and my family. From the moment my mother entered your health center it was wonderful. Thank you, to the nurses and staff members who took numerous of calls from my family. Everyone was so willing to provide us with updates and would even let us know my mom wasn't having a good day. Not to mention that window room we could not ask for anything better. We enjoyed the staff as you would stay in the room as we prayed and sang to our mom and grandma. I give a special thank you to the staff members who did not tell me to stop singing because I wasn't a singer. My mom even told me one day to stop that noise. LOL. Keep doing what you do for your patients. Thanks again, for the awesome experience at The Fort Washington Health Center. May God continue to keep and Bless everyone of you. Sincerely, Betty Walker's Family"
"This hospital is absolutely horrible. They traumatized my 90 year old grandmother who was admitted here due to testing positive for Covid-19. They kept her isolated which I completely understand, but I have no doubt the amount of attention she received was few and far between. My reasons and proof for why they traumatized her were made clear when my grandmother got back home from the hospital. I would call multiple times a day asking to speak to the nurse practitioner to get an update on my grandmother and either the nurse practitioner was busy on the floor, hasn't arrived yet or she's not answering to pages. After days of not being able to get any updates eventually someone called me at 9:30pm to tell me that "your grandmother is doing fine". That was pretty much it. They don't volunteer any details at this hospital so unless you know what to ask don't expect to be in the know about how your loved one is doing. I would send emails politely asking questions and they rarely got answered. The only time they were answering my emails is at the beginning when they needed me to sign all the paperwork. I was told I could visit my grandmother in person by the activities coordinator and then when we arrive they tell us we can only Facetime her. Here are some suggestions for this hospital: 1. Communicate to the family of the patient exactly what level of communication they can expect. Make it clear that you can't keep up because of Covid-19 if that's the case. 2. If a nurse makes the rounds daily why not send a quick blurb even a text message or email to the family about how the patient is doing? 3.If you have a patient in Covid isolation I think the family deserves to know exactly what is going to happen, it's not a normal situation. 4. Have an assistant or someone who's sole job it is to communicate information between the nurses/doctors and the family of the patient if the nurses and doctors are always so busy. 5. Don't release a covid-19 patient without making it clear that you didn't test the patient for covid-19. The bottom line is that we as African Americans should question all the services that we get and start to realize that many of these companies in our communities don't give a damn about us. We receive such a poor level of service and I think we are used to it. I'm not. I will make sure I look at hospitals NOT in my neighborhood next time, they don't deserve your trust and especially your money."
"I wouldn't recommend this facility to anyone who care about their family members. The food is horrible and the staff steal from the residence. Items come up missing and the staff blame the bed ridden patients for losing it. The staff dont respond to the call bell. The phones are always broken and the business office staff do not take care of the patient business. I have been waiting 2 months for the business office to take care of some personal needs of my family member and its still not handled. Every week it's a new excuse on why it's not handled. Ms Carter in the business office need to do her job and stop blaming others for her lack of motivation of getting her job done. I'm waiting for call backs or the patient is not well enough to come down to see me is her favorite excuse. 2 months later she still hearing the same excuses. The staff leave the patients in bed all day to get bed soars. The don't a safe place for mobile patients to come out side for fresh air except the parking lot. Smoking patients sit at the entrance all day. If you love your love ones avoid this place."
"Terrible staff with the exception of a few longtime staffers. Neglect should be added to there name. I have been waiting for over the month to speak with the ADON , does she even work here? Panhandling out front from residents" it's nothing we can do", yeah right . No cleaning supplies for staff and laundry is so far behind you will not recognize your closet when you get them back, someday. Staff does not remain here. I heard that if " no other Nursing Home will take you, go to CommuniCare and they accept anyone ". They need a complete makeover. Don't come here. Please, save your loved one. New Director and still NO, improvement No one takes responsibility for their actions . Some people needs to send the Health Department up in here.Excuse Me". Can't touch me " pathetic place and owners"
