"I was a patient at this facility back in October of 2025. I was there for almost two weeks and then given the option to go home or a skilled nursing facility. My stay there was good and I was well taken care of despite of me being a larger person. There is an amazing CNA named Melanie. She is a true Angel dropped from heaven! She was so attentive to my needs and made me feel comfortable during my stay. I had physical and occupational therapy almost every day at least three times a day. Brian, Deanna, and Italia, just to name a few were so patient with me and helped me a lot during the process of recovery. The only thing I wish is that I would have been able to be there longer instead of being sent to a nursing facility. Lucia my case manager chose the worst place to be sent! Now there I lived a true nightmare!"
"absolutely horrid, would only recommend to enemies. it takes over an hour and a half to get transferred to the right department, and that's if you don't get placed in the ridiculous wait loop. i've seen roaches walk around the PT on the first floor, guess they have coverage too. i'm told there's only 1 doctor for the pain management dept. -so there's that. on one occasion i went straight from my PT session to a follow up on the 3rd floor, they don't even give a courtesy call when the dr. leaves early. i was literally 2 floors down for over an hr. as others mentioned, the bathroom on that floor is the stuff of nightmares. on one of my recent visits i couldnt get my wheelchair up the ramp bc of the icy conditions on the path. a few people went in and asked the staff to send help. they were told "oh, we don't do that." shame, another patient with back problems had to push me up their 6 flags ramp. you've been warned."
"I enjoyed my time at Schwab. The physical therapist Jenny was great. Tania the occupational therapist was great. The CNA, Nurses and doctors (Dr. Lee and Dr. Surprise) were great. However and this why i am only giving 3 stars because I was sent to a skilled nursing facility, at first the social worker "June" couldn't find anywhere that fit my specific needs, and we talked about me going home. She was nice but unbearably pushy about me leaving the hospital. As much as I love Dr. Lee him not saying it was medically needed for me to have more physical therapy there at schwab was a bummer and recommended i go to a Skilled nursing home, and continue tf pt. I wouldn't be so upset right now if the place I was pushed out to wasn't such a massive piece of red flags. I was told and promised that I would have 6 sessions of physical therapy and I'm being told by the SNF that wasn't something the previous hospital ordered. All the progress I made at schwab has been wasted. I get that I needed to go somewhere, but not checking to see if this place could handle a bariatric patient was stupid, and negligent. June told me that my insurance would be in talks with SNF's starting October 1st 2025 foe more physical therapy. I was told that was a lie to get rid of me. She had no tact, even saying I should get online and find a partner would could "take care of me, you might find a nurse or a doctor.." like what? Now I'm in a situation where I am suffering because no one wants to do their job. Also Shelia the nurse may have ment well, but speaking about my weight the way she did was unacceptable, and in front of my family. My brother brought me some outside food, a small meal from kfc. Not only was there no talk or anything with her about the "this is why she's bloated now" comment or the arguing with my mother and the disrespect, she stayed my nurse nearly my entire last week there. Over all the experience was great but the place i was sent, just to get rid of me, is not."
"The therapy given to my father has been the best. However, this facility is under staffed with CNA especially on the weekends. If you have family who is unable to verbally communicate, I would suggest finding a facility with sufficient staffing. My dad developed 2 bed sores within 5 days of being in the facility."
"I have been trying to schedule an appointment for occupational therapy for over a month now! Unbelievable each time I speak to the same woman I recognize her voice. Today she told me that it is the clinics fault that they are not faxing over my referral. The audacity. I call the clinic and the clinic reassured me they have sent it over. She then goes on to blame the clinic and say this is an ongoing problem with the clinic. Finally she added that even if they do get my referral faxed over there's no availability until January and by then I will need a new referral because the referral will have expired by then."
"They are very short and rude on the phone. I've been trying to get therapy for my son schedule for nearly 4/5 months and everytime they claim they didn't receive a referral or they don't see it. Then they say I have to come all the way to the office to show the referral, but I can't fax it the same way the doctors office does. Then when I finally get the doctor to fax the referral for the 3rd time, they still claimed they didnt get it and now they aren't scheduling for speech therapy....No time frame, no explanation, we jsut can't be scheduled. It feels very intentional and I wish we had more facilites available because they seem to be discriminatory. We've been there once and they tried to convince me my son didn't even need therapy even though his doctor said he does. Almost like they just didn't want us there. Trust me, we wont be."
"I was in here I believe for 3 in half weeks around there. Everyone treated me nice with respect. Now mom will come here I recommend her here also. I hope it helps my mother like they help me."
"Google Review for Schwab Rehabilitation Inpatient Center - 1401 S California, Chicago My mother was transferred to Schwab Rehabilitation Center from Christ Hospital today, and I'd like to share my initial experience. Before the transfer, a woman named Lauren had been in contact with me regarding the process. She was incredibly kind, professional, and reassuring. She made me feel that my mom would be in good hands, and I truly appreciated her communication. On the day of the transfer, the EMTs who transported my mom were also very professional and pleasant. When I arrived at Schwab, I was unsure where to park. I pressed the call button at the lot entrance and spoke to a woman with an unprofessional tone. I explained the situation, she asked for a name, and then simply lifted the gate without any further instruction. It wasn't a great first impression. Once inside the building, several staff in scrubs walked by me without acknowledging or offering help. I stood around unsure of where to go until I found a security guard who gave some guidance, though she directed me around the building to a different entrance. That's when I encountered the same woman from the parking lot again -- same unwelcoming tone and attitude. Eventually, I found my mom's room on the third floor. The nurses there were kind and began handling her intake. However, my experience quickly turned unpleasant when a male nurse entered the room. Without greeting us, he pointed at my son and harshly asked, "HOW OLD IS HE?" I was taken aback and asked him to repeat himself. When I told him my son was 10, he abruptly said, "He can't be here, he has to go sit in the lobby." I responded that he wouldn't be sitting alone. He replied rudely, "Nah, you gonna have to sit with him," to which I said that I wouldn't be doing that either and that I'd leave once I finished what I came to do. He then turned to the other nurses and asked, again in a harsh tone, "What do you need from her?" The nurse replied they were reviewing my mom's personal belongings. The male nurse said he was going to "check the age range," then walked out. I asked the other nurses who he was, and they told me his name is Baxter and he's the charge nurse. After I left, I called Lauren and reported his behavior. She was once again kind, understanding, and professional. I really hope my mom's care team is more like Lauren and less like the individuals I encountered today -- particularly Nurse Baxter."
