Orthopedic Services at The Mount Sinai Hospital

"The more I interact with doctors (and the older I get), the less respect I have for them... Everyone is just making it up as they go along, it seems. I saw an orthopedist here about a horribly sprained ankle. They gave me x-rays before the doc even looked at it (is this normal?), doc looked at it for literally 5 min (but billed me for "45-59 minutes"), said it was fine, and then left. Didn't recommend any exercises or follow up care or anything. 8 months later, it still is not back to normal. Cost me $700 for literally zero help, I should have just asked ChatGPT..."

"It took almost three years for them to fix a bill that was, even by their own admission, a mistake on their end. And even then, I paid a co-pay twice because I couldn't get someone on the phone to send them a receipt of the first time I paid it (I left so many messages that were never returned). The individual doctors might be competent, but the system is filled with people who are not. You're better off going to NYP or HSS."

"My rating is based solely on my experience with Dr. Abigail Allen and one ill-mannered receptionist. Dr. Allen was extremely standoffish, she left the room twice with her intern without notice. She would literally vanish without a word and reappear annoyed that we were still there. At the end of the dreadful appointment, my son asked for a prize, and she just pointed to the box. When my son said goodbye to her, she left without a word. I hope her intern will not follow her Cruella de Vil- like ways. There was one lovely receptionist who seemed new who asked the other receptionist about my insurance. The receptionist said, "No, we don't take that! I don't know what kind of insurance that is!" I knew that I was out of network, but I was okay with it because she was recommended by a well- respected and trusted source. Well, what a costly and demoralizing mistake that was! I was told that the consultation fee would be around $200 when I made the appointment, which I was okay with; however, Dr. Allen charged $580.00 for my son's consultation fee. If I could give her and that rude receptionist 0 stars, I would. AVOID Dr. Allen. She may be the chief, but she doesn't act like it."
