"I recently had cervical neck surgery performed by Dr. Mo at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, and I can't express enough how positive my experience was. From the moment I arrived, Dr. Mo's bedside manner stood out. He took the time to thoroughly explain the procedure, addressing all my concerns with patience and clarity. His confidence and compassion made a significant difference in easing my anxiety before surgery. Very unfortunately I had to have two neck surgeries in a 6 month period and I didn't hesitate to travel two hours to return to his care because of the trust I have in his expertise. The surgery itself went exceptionally well. Dr. Mo's skill and precision were evident, and I felt reassured knowing I was in such capable hands. The hospital staff was equally impressive. Everyone I encountered, from the administrative personnel to the nursing staff, was not only professional but also genuinely kind. They provided excellent care and were attentive to my needs, ensuring I felt comfortable and supported throughout my stay. Additionally, the cleanliness of Inova Mount Vernon Hospital was top-notch. The hospital followed strict safety protocols, which made me feel secure, especially during these times when health precautions are crucial. Overall, my experience at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital with Dr. Mo was outstanding. I highly recommend him and his team for anyone considering neck surgery or any related procedures. They truly prioritize patient care and comfort, making the entire process as smooth as possible. Thank you, Dr. Mo and the wonderful staff, for your exceptional service!"
"I stayed at Mount Vernon Rehab for three weeks in January and February 2025. Due to my TBI, I was able to have my own room, which may make my experience somewhat different from others. I had a wonderful experience (as wonderful as one can have when they need rehab!) at Mount Vernon. My doctor, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, nurses, aides, and other providers were all fantastic. I felt cared for, heard, and valued. My husband researched local rehabs while I was still hospitalized, and Mount Vernon came out on top, which I thankfully got to experience why! They have a fantastic peer support program, where past rehab patients come back to share their experience with current patients, and I hope to be able to give back in that way soon. My only feedback is that the primary visitor lot fills quickly, so make sure you save extra time for parking. I could see the lot from my room window, and sadly, late employees would park there to save time in the morning, so further enforcement may be needed."
"I thought that I had already experienced the worst hospital care available. I was wrong. During my surgery hospital employees caused severe abrasions on my legs. The abrasions are now infected and I am on antibiotics. Instead of transferring me to the rehab area of the hospital, as agreed to before surgery, I was discharged on the say-so of a physical therapist. I was not even seen by the surgon who performed the surgery before being discharged. They needed/wanted the room for someone else, so they pushed me out, with no concern for my health or living circumstances. Patient Dumping, anyone? The nurses at the hospital were nice, but did not have any nursing knowledge - everything was over their heads. They could not answer the most basic questions. After my surgery the nurses and other employees were extremely rough and careless when caring for me. Home Health Nursing has been non-existant. They were supposed to come two days ago to take the bandage off of the surgical wound and see how Im doing. I have not seen or heard from them, and they have not responded to telephone calls and emails. I will not receive medical care at this hospital again."
"Dear Patient Relations Department, I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the care my son received and the lack of professionalism displayed by the staff at the Inova Emergency Department. Upon arrival, our intake and vitals were completed promptly. Despite an empty waiting room and an online listed wait time of 14 minutes, we experienced significant delays. After my son provided a urine sample for testing, we were sent back to the waiting room for an hour and a half. He was then called back for bloodwork and an IV was placed in his left arm, after which he was again sent to the waiting room. After waiting an additional two hours--totaling nearly four hours without any status updates--the empty IV line began causing my son significant pain, tingling, and numbness. When I addressed this with the male nurse at the front desk, he appeared unconcerned and informed me there was nothing he could do. I had to insist that the empty line was causing distress and request relief for my son. The lack of communication and the dismissive attitude regarding my son's physical pain are unacceptable. This experience does not meet the standard of care expected from your facility. I look forward to your response regarding how this matter will be addressed."
"Brought my mother to the ER this morning - in the course of sitting in the waiting room, she had to vomit. After getting her situated again, I went to the coffee shop inside the hospital to get her some hot water (my mom requested it). Knowing that troubling someone for "just" hot water would be bad, I also ordered a small coffee for myself. The person on staff refused to take my order for hot water. I really wanted to get my mom what she wanted, so I ordered a "hot tea without the bag" instead, and that order was accepted. This angered me so much but I didn't want to get into an argument and get back to my mom as quickly as possible. The medical care we received first rate and that's all that counts in the end - hence the 4 star review. However, the pettiness I experienced at the coffee shop really leave a bad impression despite all the good we experienced."
"I wanted to leave a quick but sincere note of gratitude for Dr. Soophi Tajik. I've been reviewing my 2017 records from Mount Vernon to handle some administrative life-details, and it's clear that Dr. Tajik's care went far beyond just standard medicine. During a 'total power loss' event for my health, she provided the kind of empathy and steady hand that Inova's mission is all about. Because she stayed so focused on my recovery back then, I'm able to live a high-performance life today. In fact, I'm currently finalizing my formal connection to the National Washington Family Descendants. It's a proud moment for me, and I know it wouldn't be happening if Dr. Tajik hadn't protected the 'hardware' of this family line when it counted most. Dr. Tajik, thank you for being the standard of excellence at Mount Vernon. I'm not just surviving; I'm thriving, and I wanted you to know that your work years ago is still paying dividends today. Stand Fast."
"My dad came to this ER after he became ill following a major surgery. During the ~6 hours we were there, he was never seen by a doctor -- only a "physician's assistant." The assistant ran a bunch of tests, told us there was no major problem, and discharged us with no followup instructions. Thankfully, dad's primary care doctor reviewed the information afterwards and told us to go to another ER immediately. My dad then spent almost a month in the hospital recovering from a serious infection. But wait, it gets worse. We reported what happened to the hospital's Patient Relations department, and after ignoring our contact attempts several times, they denied any wrongdoing and lied about their own medical records and what happened during the visit. It is one thing to make a mistake. But to double down on your mistake and refuse to learn or apologize - that is terrifying. We will never go to this hospital again and advise you to do the same."
"My toddler was actively vomiting green and no one came. They were extremely slow and short staffed possibly, nurses act timid, it seems like there are no doctors on site, my baby could've died. She was foaming at the mouth and they were just sitting there. Absolutely no sense of urgency. Terrible and extremely disappointing experience. I had to leave after waiting for an hour and a half to go to Fairfax."
