"My review is based off of Labor and Delivery. This review is long overdue. My review is based on my visit from 8/17/25. So I kept hearing bad things about Holy Cross Hospital but this was the only location my OBGYN office delivered at. I was so nervous because I was also a first time mom. I can say I had a good experience from the moment I walked in. I expressed to the nurse that I had a birth preference list. The nurse took the time to go over that list with me and we discussed options in case I had complications. That meant a lot to me and put my mind more at ease. I also informed them that I had a doula who would be arriving which they were fine with and didn't give me issues with that. When the time came for delivery, Dr. Headley and the nurses (I wish I could remember their names) did an amazing job. They were very supportive and encouraging. My babygirl arrived 8/18/25 at 3:25am. Each nurse I had throughout the time I was there was nice and informative with any questions or requests I had. At such a vulnerable time for a woman it means a lot to have the best care and good experience during labor and delivery. All and all I had a good experience from the moment I arrived to the day I was discharged."
"First time mom review: I was in active labor and was admitted at 9am to L&D room. Room was very spacious and I felt very welcome from my nurse, Hee, L. I was very lucky my Obgyn doctor was with me for the day up until 6pm when they switched nurses. I had the epidural which I was nervous about but the anesthesiologist did an excellent job. Throughout the rest of the day I was uncomfortable because of the positions I had to be in once I received Pitocin but I had no choice in order for me to go from 6cm to 10cm after my water broke. I had more medicine then took a nap. Once I woke up, they checked me for 10cm and I instantly got ready to prepare to push. Took me about 1 hour to try and push and I almost lost hope but my delivery nurse was so motivating it only took me 30min after that and I had my healthy baby boy. Couple hours later I was in my post partum room and the nurses were truly amazing, Irene, Morgan. She was very attentive and very caring for my health and pain. My baby was in Nicu for the 2 days because of his oxygen levels but I was able to see him whenever I wanted and the staff there was also amazing until I was discharged. The food was actually really good and healthy. I did not have a bad experience here at all and I will highly recommend in the future. Thank you holy cross hospital!"
"A long overdue review. I was reminded to do a review after seeing on the news hospital care for a premie. All my 5 surviving children were all delivered at Holy Cross Hospital. My oldest child is 30 and youngest is 10. I am deeply grateful for the utmost service received from all level of staffs and especially doctors and nurses. They truly cared and gave me the very best. I feel so indebted to this great hospital. I had 2 premature babies and all NICU staff deserves an award and more. They are both doing great in every aspect of life. Thank you!!! God bless you all and the hospital."
"I truly can't express how grateful I am for Dr. Block. My second delivery experience was absolutely amazing because of him. From the moment I went into labor, he was kind, patient, and so gentle. He made me feel safe and supported every step of the way. With my first baby, I did not have a good experience, so I was very nervous and unsure about what to expect the second time. I knew I did not want an epidural, and during my first delivery I felt like my wishes were not fully respected. That left me feeling unheard and discouraged. But this time was completely different. When I told Dr. Block I wanted to deliver without an epidural, he didn't question me or pressure me -- instead, he encouraged me. He gave me so much strength and confidence when I needed it the most. His calm energy, gentle hands, and reassuring words made such a difference. He truly listened to me and respected my choices. Because of him, I was able to have the natural birth experience I hoped for. I will always be thankful for the care and compassion he showed me during such an important moment in my life. I highly recommend him to any mother looking for a doctor who truly cares."
"My wife and I just had our Valentines Day baby delivered here at Holy Cross. We were nervous at first due to a lot of negative reviews but that was not our experience at all. From the minute we walked into the receiving rooms, we were taken care of by the entire staff. All of them were great, but top standouts were intake Nurses Joana and Elizabeth, the anesthesiologist Hanan Tafesse, the delivery doctor Dr. Makia, our breastfeeding consultant Lauren, and our maternity ward nurses Maria, Erin and McKenzie. Our maternity ward nurses were all clearly very experienced and were super helpful in providing advice and care to both mother and the baby. We spent 4 nights at the hospital, and don't have anything bad to say about any part of our experience."
"I delivered here instead of Germantown because it had a higher level NICU support but the entire experience from start to finish was awful. I wouldn't deliver my baby here again. The labor and delivery staff were mostly rude and unhelpful. We only had 2 good nurses the whole stay. Before delivery, a nurse made fun of me for being in pain and was in no rush to provide me meds. During delivery, the nurse we had was good until all the other nurses and the doctor showed up. Then it turned into humiliation again with their fake "supportive" messages when I felt like absolutely giving up. Rather than uplifting me to keep going, they seemed annoyed that it wasn't over with yet. Our lactation specialist always seemed like she had more important places to be and didn't realize that even with the nipple shield she provided for us, our baby wasn't actually eating. We had to find that out from our NP at Kaiser a few days later so our child was starving and losing weight but the staff kept saying "that's normal". My breastmilk depleted because it wasn't being consumed properly and we ended up having to switch to formula early. We didn't want the vitamin k shot right away and the doctor came in when my husband wasn't there telling me I'm making a mistake because a baby died a few months ago from not receiving it immediately. The OB also missed a tear that needed to be stitched while delivering, which I told them I was in severe pain still before we left. No ob or regular doctor inspected me prior to discharge. That missed tear caused me a multitude of issues. They also gave us paperwork that had our sons incorrect date of birth on it. I wouldn't recommend this hospital. It was a disaster from start to even leaving the hospital. I complained to their family care support and they took no accountability for any of their staff's actions. I never leave reviews but hopefully this stops another mother from making the same mistake I did by choosing this hospital."
"Yesterday I had a negative experience at your emergency center that I wanted to bring to your attention as constructive feedback. My mom was brought in with a serious condition and after she was initially checked in, she began actively vomiting blood in the waiting room and this information hadn't been passed on to the nursing team. I needed to inform someone but had no clear way to do so. I didn't see the nurse I talked to before and every nurse in the area was busy with other patients. I approached the security desk for help and was directed to speak with one of the nurses in the ER general nursing area. So I had to interrupt a nurse who was talking to a patient to ask him where the nurse I was talking to was or who to go to. I was panicked and may not have worded myself clearly, but he responded very harshly, which added significant distress to an already scary situation and made it even harder to communicate. I want to be clear that my feedback is not about staff being busy, I understand ERs are demanding environments. My feedback is about the lack of a clear system for family members who need to urgently communicate new or updated information after initial check-in. A designated contact person or clear signage indicating where to go in these situations would have made a difference cause I was just scared and trying to advocate. I've never seen her in so much pain it was scary and it wasn't clear where to go. Thank you for taking the time to read this."
"Terrible communication and courtesy at the information/ security desk. Refused to check if a patient has been received via transfer in an emergency situation from another hospital. Insisted on having the nurse station to call down to reverse confirm while they're busy up top, and security is just watching the front door (mind you it's past midnight so the traffic is nonexistent) DEFINITELY Do Not recommend for night visits. (Not sure if it's the same during the day) Nice lobby and vibe."
