"At the end of January, 2026, I had knee replacement surgery performed at UM St. Joseph's hospital and I was treated with the upmost care and compassion. From the moment I arrived until I was assisted into the car to go home, from the nursing staff, assistants, physical therapy, the room leaning folks to the delightful food delivery young woman, everyone had a pleasant yet professional attitude making me feel as if I was the only patient they had to look after. I was in room 612 and my thanks to Cathy, Grace, Charmaine, Stacey, Chris, Heather, Ashley, Kabita, Ashanti, Sonya, Rabitta, Yang, Jakill, Tiffany, and the rest of the unheralded staff on the 6th floor for making my stay at St. Joe's a pleasant one. And the food was outstanding, on time and hot, well presented with a smile! Once again, my sincerest thanks to everyone who helped make my stay an extraordinary experience. Dick Boivin, Jessup, MD"
"I am writing this review out of frustration and pain. Yesterday I fell and broke my shoulder. I went to St Josephs because I trusted them. They did xrays and a CT scan and it is definitely broken. The pain is intense. They told me I would need surgery and then they sent me home on a Friday afternoon knowing I wouldn't be treated for several days. Then to top it off I asked for a pain med that I know works for me without horrible side effects. They talked me into a med I knew I was allergic too. The medication caused a terrible headache and the itching was absolutely miserable so on top of my pain that this medication did nothing for I had nausea from my headache and severe itchiness. I am so disappointed in my treatment. Who sends someone home with a broken shoulder and they say " good luck" ???"
"Very disappointed in my experience with booking this appointment. My mom went to see Dr Carmen and recommended that I see this "amazing" Black obgyn. She told me this at the end of last year I had to wait weeks to schedule an appointment because it was so booked. It's was finally scheduled for December. I'm thinking Wowww very popular and in high demand. However I'm very disappointed and upset that I was told to reschedule to March 11. Well on today I was notified that my long awaited appointment was canceled again and I'll need to reschedule. I'm not sure I want to continue with booking Dr Carmen. It's my first time booking an obgyn. I need go to Atlanta and visit Dr Simone or Dr Jackie. It might be quicker. I love supporting Black doctors but this it's very unfortunate and discouraging."
"I just had my first baby last November here and VERY highly recommend it - their Mother-Baby Unit is absolutely amazing, took great care of me, my partner and our baby for the first few days after birth. We had all of our ultrasounds here as well, appreciated their updated technology, loved the string of pictures they gave us to take home every time! The hospital also offers some free classes for learning about birth and childcare as well as some that were really affordable (less than $100 per couple). We were a part of a Centering group of 7 couples expecting around the same time, all delivered safely at this hospital. Just recently we all met up for the first time since delivering and everyone was praising the Mother-Baby Unit! What a blessing it was. Thank you, St. Joe's! We are eternally grateful to your staff for helping get our precious baby here safely"
"It all started on Nov 09 2025, with a surprise finding of Pancreatic cancer. I was put in touch with Dr Mark Fraiman. He and the St Joseph's staff ,from that point forward were my life line. From the initial meet and greet thru the surgery and recovery, I was treated with the utmost respect. We had a hiccup in the surgery, which was addressed and taken care of. Making the surgery a much harder one but better for me in the long run. I'm am now cancer free. Without the expert care of all my Doctors, Nurses, PT, and everyone else. I think I'd have lost my mind. As I go back through the names that were implanted in my mind from beginning to end of recovery. I find everyone of them offered something unique and special to their profession. I express my deepest Thanks and hugs to all of them."
"Fantastic! I was only in for a colonoscopy so in for the procedure and out about 90 minutes later. Everyone was so nice. The pre procedure staff, the post procedure staff and everyone before and in between. So nice, so incredibly helpful. Everything went so well I would use this hospital for emergencies and future procedures. I got great care from this facility and can't recommend it enough."
"My experience at St. Joseph Hospital was extremely disappointing and unsettling. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, I was mortified by how my child and I were treated. During triage, a staff member came in to draw blood and perform an EKG. She was not personable at all and asked my son if he was going to pass out before taking his blood, which immediately made the situation more stressful for him. After being told my son would be taken to a room, we were instead escorted to the psych ward, . We remained there for over an hour before a nurse finally came in and asked if my son had the flu because that's what was written in his chart. I explained that he was not sick and was there for severe chest pain. The nurse appeared confused and said they were preparing to give him a flu test. I said no, there's no need no one is sick! She then said the doctor would be in soon and closed the door. At that point, my child had still not been properly assessed for chest pain, and we had been waiting an unreasonable amount of time without any check-ins or updates. When I expressed concern about how long it was taking for a child to be seen, the response was dismissive. I just wanted meds to get him comfortable while we wait. We ultimately left around 4:15 due to the lack of care and communication, and the staff's attitude made it seem as though we were the problem, despite being ignored for over two hours. I have worked in healthcare and understand delays happen, but this was not acceptable. Leaving a child and parent in a psych ward for hours without appropriate evaluation, communication, or bedside manner is unacceptable. I have been to this hospital before and never experienced anything like this. Needless to say I took him to GBMC since they have a Pediatric ER. Checked in by 4:35, tested, evaluated, seen a doc, X-rays done and more within the hour of checking in! This experience seriously needs to be reviewed by hospital leadership. 1/6/2026 @ 2:15am!"
"My wife is alive today because of this hospital. She died for 6 minutes 2 days ago. Her heart stopped and the ICU team brought her back to me. Their quick action, and ability to notice the emergency before the monitor even picked it up.... Thank you! My kids have a mother and I still have my wife BECAUSE OF YOU!"
