"Dr. Lorraine Stern is an extremely talented surgeon. I fell off a ladder, and all my weight came down on my right foot. My injuries were very severe. The neck of my ankle was broken, my heal was split and the side of my ankle was shattered. Many bones were dislocated, and my foot was not recognizable and deformed. (In medical terms fractured / displaced talar neck, calcaneus and distal fibula). Dr Stern surgically reassembled the bones in my foot and put it in a cast until the swelling went down. Three weeks later in the second surgery, she skillfully put in a plate, a rod and 4 screws to hold together the unstable fractures. As it healed, she directed and worked with my physical therapist to develop a plan so that I could slowly begin to bear weight and regain my balance. Dr. Stern is kind and compassionate. She is very direct and transparent in discussing treatment and potential outcomes. She always spends the time to fully answer any questions or concerns. When she was taking the x-rays for the many follow-up visits, she'd take me to the monitor so we could look at the x-rays together and she explained how each of my injuries looked and illustrated how they were healing. I highly recommend Dr Stern. I have now recovered and can take long walks and even play golf! This was a life-changing injury that could have ended very differently. I was very fortunate that Dr. Stern was the trauma surgeon on call that night and was experienced in complex cases. I also wanted to give a shout out to the staff of Modern Orthopedics. They are professional, pleasant and very efficient when I come for office visits. A particular shout out to Ashley, the surgical coordinator. She was very helpful and made things easy and straight forward for me."
