"I went for my very first acupuncture appointment this past week, and while the acupuncture itself was good and I feel could be beneficial for helping with a herniated disk in my back, I was extremely uncomfortable with my treatment from Ed. I am a fat individual undergoing treatment by both a nutritionist and therapist for an active eating disorder (a fact that I disclosed in my paperwork survey). I went to see Ed for a herniated disk, NOT for any intentional weight loss therapy or any counselling about weight related issues. Yet, after my acupuncture treatment and while I was still laying prone on the table, Ed confronted me about my weight and insisted that it be "dealt with" and that he was the person who could "make food leave a bitter taste in my mouth." He outright asked me if I had been abused as a child and told me that "my problem" was due to built up negative energy in my body that he could work to fix. After listening to his opinions for far too long, and trying to defend myself as best I could, I left the office in shock and have been processing this traumatic experience since. I was not physically abused as a youth. However, I have been psychologically abused over and over again by doctors who believe that it is their place to shame me about my own body based on society's decision that thin is the only way to be. Ed is not a safe practitioner for anyone in eating disorder recovery. He does NOT practice Health At Every Size and has extreme anti-fat bias. If you are seeking intentional weight loss, then I will say, up until the point of being humiliated yet again by a "health professional" he was friendly and jovial and the acupuncture itself was painless and relaxing. Unfortunately, I left the office anything but relaxed. I will not be returning to Ed, but will seek treatment elsewhere in a more accepting and safe environment."

"I was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy and reached out to several different acupuncturists in the area. Ed Herrera responded and offered to come in early/stay late to make sure that I could get treatment.
